A large, light-filled bedroom nestles amongst the trees in a quintessential Vermont village. The room has vaulted ceilings with dramatic exposed post and beam construction and stunning forest views.

THE PLAN
Timeless yet modern, substantial in scale but light in feel.
It was important to have a calming harmonious space, nothing cluttered or overdone, one that echoed the feel of the room. The client wanted a functional style that compliments rather than overwhelms the space. Somewhere to sleep, somewhere to store belongings and a little sitting area to enjoy the view were the mandates for final design.

THE FLOOR PLAN
IT STARTS WITH A SKETCH
Careful not to overwhelm the grand scale of the space, we drew a plan that offered just what was needed to fill the room with functional beauty.
The north-facing wall with two windows and overhead fan determined the bed placement. The skylights and glass french doors on the opposite end lent themselves to a serene sitting area perfect to drink a morning coffee while reading the news, or just watching the seasons pass.

All pieces were built in a combination of solid cherry and maple hardwood. The warm light tones keep the space feeling spacious and light.

A room filled with just furniture is nothing more than a furnished room. As lovely and as perfect as the wood or the design may be, every room needs to be accessorized. Lamps, bedding, area rugs and wall art add the needed personality to any room.

Here we started with a large area rugs from our in-house brand InnerAsia. A large 8’ X 10’ was placed under the bed and just in front of the nightstands. The rug grounds the space and sets the color tone for the rest of the room.

For bedside lighting we selected retro style arched lamps with industrial metal shades from Lampscapes of White River Vermont. The wood lamp on the dresser has a similar scaled down feeling, same for the lamp on the wardrobe across the room.

The super queen bedding in a simple beige ticking stripe adds some visual texture while keeping the feeling casual.
The artfully thrown cotton throw from Bronte Moon is produced on looms over 100 years old.

And in a such a grand room, filled with light, plants are a must. They soften the straight lines of the architecture and of course provide clean fresh air as they grow.
